Loaves of bread were recalled in Japan after “small animal” remains, believed to be rats, were reportedly discovered inside the loaves.

Approximately 104,000 packages of the bread were reportedly recalled and production of the loaves was stopped in Tokyo after complaints of the “small animal” remains emerged, according to Japanese bread and sweets manufacturer Pasco Shikishima Corp, The Associated Press (AP) reported.

The company responsible for the bread containing dead rodent parts released a statement acknowledging the issue and apologizing, according to The AP.

“We will do our utmost to strengthen our quality controls so that this will never happen again. We ask for your understanding and your cooperation,” the bread producer said following the decision to recall the product.” (RELATED: Rats Feast On Confiscated Weed As New Orleans Police Say It’s High Time For New Headquarters: REPORT)

The affected loaves of bread were reportedly sold at multiple locations including Ibaraki, Niigata, Kanagawa, Fukushima, Aomori and Tokyo, according to Pasco Shikishima Corp. The bread manufacturer, which also produces rolls, muffins and bagels, is located in Nagoya city, The AP reported.
